Ambrose Fulcher built the OLD SALT for Harman Hill, of Atlantic, in 1919. Originally named ALIENE, after Hill's daughter Aliene Hill, she is possibly the oldest fishing boat still in operation in Core Sound. The OLD SALT has had several owners over the years. In 1965 Charley Taylor, of Sealevel, purchased the vessel for use in his long-hauling operation. Taylor's stepson, Danny Mason, took over the boat in the 1990s and made extensive repairs. He renamed her OLD SALT after his uncle and still hauls with the boat.
