Fulcher Run Boats, Atlantic.tiff
"Runboats," or "buy boats," were sent by fish houses to bail out fish from the nets of long-haul fishermen and bring them back to the fish house for packing and selling. The vessels were larger than the typical haul boat, but they still could negotiate the shallow sound waters. The Muriel (front), Bettie E., and Harry B. belonged to a runboat fleet operated by the Clayton Fulcher Seafood Company of Atlantic. Ambrose Fulcher, of Atlantic, built the three boats in 1935, 1939, and 1938, respectively. Notice the Muriel's sweeping lines (known as "sheer"), a characteristic of Core Sounders in general and especially of those built by Ambrose Fulcher.
